What Makeup Brushes Should I Buy?

This is the second segiment for our makeup brush special! Last time we talked about is it worth it to buy separate makeup brushes. In this post we will talk about what makeup brushes to buy! You can buy a makeup brush kit or buy specific makeup brushes for specific jobs. Which ever you choose you should go with high quality. First check the bristles by running your hand through it. If they come out easily or feel coarse this is not a good sign. If it feels rough on your hand how will it feel on your face! Natural or synthetics depends on you and the makeup you use. If using liquid and cream foundation, cover-up etc, synthetic is easier to clean and can handle the liquid. If you have sensitive skin synthetics if not high quality could be too rough on your skin. However natural brushes can be very soft and is best for powder cosmetics. Please be aware that if you are sensitive or allergic to animal hair you may be allergic to natural makeup brushes. Also how you like your makeup look depends on the brush! If you like a dramatic deep colors for your makeup look a synthetic is ideal. If you prefer a lighter natural look of course natural makeup brushes are best. But with the amount of brushes out there what do all those makeup brushes do?

Big Style the Big Apple

Good day world!

I am writing you from the world of famous Big Apple !

Lesson No. 1 – Let’s do the Polka! (dot, that is).

Day of Shopping on 5th Avenue was exhausting! The big attraction was the Louie Vuitton windows – a collaboration between Japanese designer Yayoi Kusama and Louis Vuitton designers created this weirdly wonderful polka dot octopus and big carnivorous flowers. (we’re still talking about fashion right?)

Look out NYC! A polka dot octopus may be waiting around the corner to gobble you up if are only window-shopping and not spending your money!

Learn how to cover yourself in dots with the help of LV!

Spotted! Minnie Mouse rocks this season’s polka-dot trend!

Another shopping extravaganza is in SoHo. With so many unusual and unique boutiques, I could not say the same about the famous DASH fashion boutique of the Kardashian family. Wow! What a boring store! A mix of uneventful clothing. What was the fashion story this boutique was trying to tell? Nobody knows…Oh wait! I know: Cheap clothes and boring. (Stick to your reality TV shows ladies, leave fashion boutiques to the experts).

This brings me to Lesson No. 2: Style is something you are born with. You cannot buy it, even if you are a Kardashian!

Well, NYC was fun! A fashionista’s paradise!

Ta Ta until next time! Miss O!

Are You Using the Right Brush For You?

There are many tips and tricks in applying makeup what about what we apply our makeup with? This month we will have 3 short segiments on makeup brushes each week; Why buy brushes or not?, Which brushes should I buy? and How to care for your brushes. The big question is whether to spend money on brushes or not since most makeup comes with applicators. Its depends on the look you want and your skin type. Most of the applicators that come with makeup are not the highest quality they may do the job but do they do the job fast, easy and effectiveolalalife makeup brushes

Its best to consider the look you are going for? Certain brushes and applicators will apply products lighter then others, if you feel that your applicators apply makeup to hard or soft then it is best to find the right tool for you! Your skin type is also a factor. If you have sensitive skin you get makeup accordingly, the same with your makeup brushes. Certain applicators may be too rough on your skin or you may be allergic to the hairs on the brush.

The tools you use is up to you. Applicators should make applying makeup easier for you and should be what you feel comfortable with. But can’t it be expensive? Not necessarily. The thing to look for is quality. Look for high quality brushes. If you can find a good high quality brush that works for you for less than go for it! Most may find though that good quality brushes may cost a bit more. Some invest in a few good brushes for general areas such as the whole face, eyeshadow, and blush and use cheaper brushes for small corrections and applications or buy a makeup brush set.Which ever you choose you need to know what brushes are best for what jobs and what brushes to look for? Next week we will talk about Which brushes should you buy?

Eggtensions and More to get Healthy Hair at Home!

Hello Everyone!

Hopefully you are enjoying this warmer weather! And because it is getting so much warmer we really need to remember to be wearing our sun-tan lotion and to be moisturising our skin and hair. But sometimes the lotions and remedies you buy at the store can be very expensive, so I did some research and found some great home remedies to fix dry hair and keep it looking shiny, that I thought I’d share with you!

1) Hair Eggtensions: Separate the yolk and egg white, and beat the egg white with 1 tbsp of water until creamy, then mix in the yolk. Wet your hair with warm water and apply the mixture with your fingertips. Massage in the egg mixture until it is worked into your scalp and rinse with cool water.

2) Mayoditioner: Take a 1/2 cup of mayonnaise and heat until it becomes oily and apply to dry, unwashed hair. Leave this on your hair (covered with a plastic bag) for at least 15 minutes, then rinse and shampoo thoroughly.

3) Fruit Elixir: Mash up an overly ripe banana with a mushy avocado and massage this mixture into your hair. Leave on for at least 15 minutes and then wash it out gently.

4) Beericle: Before blow-drying your hair, spritz a little beer onto your mane. The beer will leave your hair shiny and sleek and the odor will soon disappear.

Just remember that the warmer weather means we need to take good care of our hair and skin. Hope these home remedies help!

It’s a Make-Up Fact

Hey Friends!

Instead of doing our usual Make-up Trivia question today I thought I’d put together some of my favourite make-up facts for you! These are the ones that I find the most interesting!

-Did you know that on the average adult woman’s face there are 20,000 pores!

-Elizabeth Arden’s real name is actually Florence Graham

-Avon was the first major cosmetics manufacturer to announce a permanent end to animal testing

-Q-tips were originally known as ‘Baby Gay’s’

-On a 1915 cover of Harper’s Bazaar a beautiful model appeared in an evening gown. She wasn’t wearing a corset, her skirt was above her ankles and the back of her dress was very low. But the major thing that people noticed was the fact that she lacked underarm hair.

-‘Frownies’ are facial pads designed to correct facial wrinkles

- Helena Rubinstien began her career creating stage make-up. She is attributed to making mascara popular with the general public.

-The first UVA/UVB sunscreen was developed by Coppertone in 1980

-Unlike Dr.Pepper, Cherry 7-Up, Orange Crush, and Root Beer, Mountain Dew is not a Lip Smackers flavour

-In 2004 Americans spent $1.69 billion on skin-care products in supermarkets and drug stores

Hope you enjoyed these interesting make-up facts! Until next week!

Bright Warm Weather and Bright Warm Colours!

One of the biggest fashion trends this year is bright colours- but some people may feel a little apprehensive about how to wear them.

Well I did some digging around and I have a few tips on the best way to wear these beautiful bright colours!

1) Start with something small and work into a bigger piece! Start with a bright coloured purse of a bright pair of shoes! Incorporate them into an outfit that has simple colours like black, white of tan. I love this beautiful blue Rebecca Minkoff Neon Mini MAC bag:

2) Choose colours that work with your skin and your hair. Knowing what looks good on your makes it easier to wear colour. I know that with my blonde hair and fair sking I look good in reds, pinks, blues.

3) Wear a bright coloured shoe. This is a great way to start small and also add a “pop” to your outfit. I love these bright orange Calvin Klein Cameron Ballet flats

4) Wear a mutli-coloured dress. If your not sure what bright colour you’d like to start with, try a multi-coloured dress with a nude shoe. I love this Natalee Print Shealth Dress from Alice + Olivia.

5) Wear a colourful belt. This is another great way to add a pop of bright colour to a simple outfit. This bright Wilshire belt from Gorjana would really stand out with a simple white or nude dress.

6) If you are really nervous about trying out a bright colour, opt for a simple nail polish. I am currently obsessing over Essie’s Turquoise & Caicos! Its a beautiful shade and just perfect for spring!

The key with this trend is to remember to start off with something small and work your way up to more colour. It’s a great look and will really make you shine. Good luck!
