What Makeup Brushes Should I Buy?

This is the second segiment for our makeup brush special! Last time we talked about is it worth it to buy separate makeup brushes. In this post we will talk about what makeup brushes to buy! You can buy a makeup brush kit or buy specific makeup brushes for specific jobs. Which ever you choose you should go with high quality. First check the bristles by running your hand through it. If they come out easily or feel coarse this is not a good sign. If it feels rough on your hand how will it feel on your face! Natural or synthetics depends on you and the makeup you use. If using liquid and cream foundation, cover-up etc, synthetic is easier to clean and can handle the liquid. If you have sensitive skin synthetics if not high quality could be too rough on your skin. However natural brushes can be very soft and is best for powder cosmetics. Please be aware that if you are sensitive or allergic to animal hair you may be allergic to natural makeup brushes. Also how you like your makeup look depends on the brush! If you like a dramatic deep colors for your makeup look a synthetic is ideal. If you prefer a lighter natural look of course natural makeup brushes are best. But with the amount of brushes out there what do all those makeup brushes do?

Lesson No. 1 – Let’s do the Polka! (dot, that is).

Day of Shopping on 5th Avenue was exhausting! The big attraction was the Louie Vuitton windows – a collaboration between Japanese designer Yayoi Kusama and Louis Vuitton designers created this weirdly wonderful polka dot octopus and big carnivorous flowers. (we’re still talking about fashion right?)

Look out NYC! A polka dot octopus may be waiting around the corner to gobble you up if are only window-shopping and not spending your money!

Another shopping extravaganza is in SoHo. With so many unusual and unique boutiques, I could not say the same about the famous DASH fashion boutique of the Kardashian family. Wow! What a boring store! A mix of uneventful clothing. What was the fashion story this boutique was trying to tell? Nobody knows…Oh wait! I know: Cheap clothes and boring. (Stick to your reality TV shows ladies, leave fashion boutiques to the experts).

This brings me to Lesson No. 2: Style is something you are born with. You cannot buy it, even if you are a Kardashian!

Are You Using the Right Brush For You?

There are many tips and tricks in applying makeup what about what we apply our makeup with? This month we will have 3 short segiments on makeup brushes each week; Why buy brushes or not?, Which brushes should I buy? and How to care for your brushes. The big question is whether to spend money on brushes or not since most makeup comes with applicators. Its depends on the look you want and your skin type. Most of the applicators that come with makeup are not the highest quality they may do the job but do they do the job fast, easy and effectiveolalalife makeup brushes

Its best to consider the look you are going for? Certain brushes and applicators will apply products lighter then others, if you feel that your applicators apply makeup to hard or soft then it is best to find the right tool for you! Your skin type is also a factor. If you have sensitive skin you get makeup accordingly, the same with your makeup brushes. Certain applicators may be too rough on your skin or you may be allergic to the hairs on the brush.

The tools you use is up to you. Applicators should make applying makeup easier for you and should be what you feel comfortable with. But can’t it be expensive? Not necessarily. The thing to look for is quality. Look for high quality brushes. If you can find a good high quality brush that works for you for less than go for it! Most may find though that good quality brushes may cost a bit more. Some invest in a few good brushes for general areas such as the whole face, eyeshadow, and blush and use cheaper brushes for small corrections and applications or buy a makeup brush set.Which ever you choose you need to know what brushes are best for what jobs and what brushes to look for? Howdy!

Whether we like it or not the holidays are here and we have less then a month until Christmas! (Yikes, insert mild panic attack here). Yesterday I was doing a little searching around the internet to get some ideas and came across some of the “hottest” gifts for this holiday season that I thought I’d share with you all (and hopefully give you some help!). So here are the items that definitely make my wishlist:

1. Super glam and fabulous cross body bags. I am currently in love with this elegant, yet gothic House of Harlow Rey Bag. Its perfect for an evening out or just for dressing up a simple outfit.

3. Cool stick-on wall decals. This is a great present because there are so many to choose from and they can really spruce up a room, especially if you have very neutral walls, and the person can choose where they want to put it! I especially love this tree decal from Urban Outfitters! It would definitely be a great addition!

4. Wrap watches are back on trend and can be the perfect accessory to any outfit! It’s even better if you are able to change the band and make it different each time you wear it. I’m 100% in need of this beautiful and charming watch from Le Mer.

5. Instant cameras! The polaroid is back and cool! And what better way to capture your memories and have them in and instant! I know I wouldn’t mind have this stylish Polaroid Instant Camera Pic300, in a variety of colours!

80 Years Old and Still FABULOUS!

Hello!!!

What a beautiful October 5th day we are having! It’s just lovely out, and too make it even more lovely it happens to be one of my lovely Grannies 80th birthdays! To celebrate the event we are having a lovely (how many times is that now!) dinner party this evening, which we have decorated with roses her fav flower. Thinking about my Granny turning 80 made me start to think about growing older, but let me tell you, and let my Granny tell you age is just a number!

My Granny looks AMAZING for her age. She is absolutely beautiful, and has always been so.  Today, in honour of her special day, I’d like to share with you some of her tips for keeping young at heart:

1. ALWAYS LAUGH: Laughter is the best medicine, it’s good for sad times, joyous times, funny times, and heaven-forbid angry times. If you can laugh at yourself then you truly have accepted yourself, which makes life so much easier.

2. EAT GOOD FOOD: My Granny eats three regular size meals a day and does not skip out on her cups of tea and a treat every now and again. “It’s good to treat yourself”, she says, “but do it in moderation”. Her favourite special little treat our buttertarts! Yum!

3. STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES (LITERALLY!): Not only are roses her favourite flower, she also claims they are one of her secrets for staying so young! She has a full rose garden back home, and goes out every day to tend to them, keep them well, and just sit in their beauty.

4. TAKE PRIDE IN YOURSELF: Although you may not be as young as you once were, it all depends on how you feel, and clothes and little bit of makeup can always give you a little boost of confidence. Granny always has her blush and lipstick on, as well as gorgeous outfits that flatter her shape, along with the perfect jewelry accessories. In fact I’ve never seen her not put together, even in the morning she comes down looking beautiful. (If you need a little help with this O La La has a new app launching soon for the 30+ crowd! 5. NEVER TAKE A DAY FOR GRANTED: There are many things in life that we do not show enough appreciation for. She tells me all the time to slow down, and look around at all the beauty life has to offer.

The Tiffessentials!

What a crazy-busy two weeks! I had so much fun at TIFF but did feel a bit like I was flying by the seat of my pants for a little while! The last night I was out and about I had a great time at The Thompson with Rebecca Hall. She looked gorgeous in a halter-pants-jumpsuit number:

My last stop was at The Brant House where unfortunately no celebrities decided to show, but we still had a blast!!!

Over the course of the two weeks I did learn a few things here and there about how to make TIFF that much better. Here’s a little list I cooked up to share with you:

1. Bring water!!! Walking around all over the place is tiring and you NEED to stay refreshed. If you can manage it bottle your own and do your part for the environment too!

2. Ditch the large Gucci tote and grab a clutch. I am currently coveting this Jenny Fold Clutch by Halston Heritage:

3. And now that I think of it, wear comfy shoes. Your probably going to be doing a lot of walking, and while your killer heels may look great, you want to protect your poor little feet. May we suggest the Zig Zag flats from Missoni. Not only do they look great but they keep you comfy too!

4. Be camera ready! You never know when your going to run into a celeb and you may want to keep that meeting in more then just your memory! If your phone doesn’t have a camera, stash your digital one in your clutch! I were able to snag this pic of my future husband Ryan Gosling:

5. And finally! Take your vitamins! You may be out-late, up early, enjoying the sunshine then shivering in your little flats. Remember TIFF is two weeks long and you don’t want to miss out on all the fun by getting a bad cold. Stay healthy, eat right, take those vitamins and get good sleeps. You won’t enjoy it as much with a runny nose!

Well that puts this year’s festival to bed. I wonder what adventures I’ll run into next year!

Assassins, Survivors and Vibrations

what a busy week! tiff events here, and tiff events there, tiff events every where!

last night we visited three different spots and oh what fun! first i got all dressed up in my new lady daf suede platform pumps from christian louboutin and of course rocked my o la la perfect pout lip gloss to keep my lips moisturized and perfectly shining!

first off we went to atelier where we saw alexis bledel who looked ammmmmazing in a glittery gold dress! she was promoting her new movie violet & daisy which also stars saoirse ronan who was unfortunately a little sick (get well!). however james gandolfini who made a quick appearance and was off!

we then scooted off to f stop where we saw the cast of the day! ashley bell looked beautiful in a well-tailored dress and dominic monaghan, shawn ashmore and cory hardrict were totally dashing (i definitely have three new crushes!)

i then ran off to the final destination which was at the thompson for the after-party for the movie hysteria! maggie gyllenhall made a quick appearance but was unfortunately escorted off to the vip room immediately upon arrival. hugh dancy smiled for the cameras on the red carpet and oh are those eyes every piercing (crush #4). the party was fab and they were giving out special little treats to all the ladies (i won’t say but check out what the movie was about and you can take a guess!).

i will be out and about for one more night and definitely looking forward to it! it was so chilly out last night though i will be bundling up! i promise to post all my celeb seeing experiences from tonight soon! hope you’re all having a lovely weekend!
